Intresting!

Did you know the so treaties or armistices were signed to end the Chinese Civil War? From 1927 until 1950, the ROC fought the communist CPC. In 1950, most of the ROC retreated to the island of Taiwan after the CPC gained control of most of the mainland. The CPC intended to squash the ROC, but Harry Truman sent in the Navy to keep both sides from attacking each other. Today, both the ROC and the CPC still exhist, and although many ROC leaders claim to be the mainland's ligitamate government, they maintain strong economic ties. To me, it just seems odd that Taiwan and China have been technically still at war yet they remain in peace (mostly) neighboring each other.

Today in History

Today in history, the U.S. Senate approved U.S. participation in the U.N., so I'd like to express how disappointed I am with them. In this world of increasing globalization, you would think the U.N.'s role would be expanding. What has the U.N. done to help with the world-wide economic crisis? I haven't heard any plan from them, and I read newspapers quite frequently. The brunt of the work done for investigating the Mumbai attacks is being done by the U.S., the U.K., Spain, and Canada. I haven't seen anything mentioning U.N. involvement in the news. You would think an orginization originated to keep world peace would look into, maybe even leading the investigations into, terror attacks disrupting peace like these. NATO seems to have done more peacekeeping than the U.N. in the past decade, in Kosovo and Afghanistan for example. Actually, 400 U.N. peacekeeping forces were in Srebrenica during the Kosovo war, but did almost nothing to stop genocide there. I expect more actions from a global organization in a globalizing world.

I am really hurting after today's practice! A color guard instructor came in to show us some exercises to work on balance and such, and my lower back is killing me! Does anybody know a good stretch to relieve the lower back? I was looking for one earlier in the year when I first started marching but I gave up after a little while.
